The Submariners!... or something like that
News from the Big Cog

Day 7 Wavre - 6.8.05

Left Wavre in cool conditions and followed the main road but not too busy and still with bike lanes and occasional bike traffic lights. Less Dutch influence and more french. The women dressed more smartly but the people smiled less. Less people on bikes and more fat people. Stopped at Namur for lunch and watched some buskers. There were some acrobatic break dancers Daniel befriended and one of the guys taught Dan a new move he liked. Daniel did a good standing backward somersault on the rough cobblestones that won their respect.

A lady at the Namur tourist office told us of a bike path we could take and we the followed the Meuse river to Givet just over the border into France. This was the most scenic ride we had done for some days. There were times the path was too rough and we got onto the road. But this majestic river extended our flat riding for a painless and pleasant day.

Stats Dist 96 Km, Average 17km/hr, Max 46km/hr, Climb 375m
