Day 46 Orvieto - 13.9.05 

Maybe we're getting stronger but we climbed over 1,000 meters, rode into a headwind, and covered over 100km but the day didn't seem as hard as the last few. First stop was the supermarket for salami, cheese, fresh bread and some cake for breakfast. and then a sharp climb for a spectacular view of Orvieto and descent into Montefiascone, then an easy but ugly ride to Viterbo and more industrial areas to Ventralla. Then the decision to ride to the coast for a swim, with a long ride to Rome the following Day or ride towards Rome for an easy day following.

We chose the latter and at first rode through some lovely country areas, then suddenly the road took the appearance of a freeway - but wasn't. We had 30 quick but unpleasant kms and took the turn off to Cesano for a great meal with some colourful locals ( Italian husband and wife - he was quiet, however, she ordered or food, chose our wine, solved world peace and kept telling me I was an intelligent man? ) at the local Pizza house.
