Always Bee Yourself News from the Big Cog Day 44 Fabriano - 11.9.05 Being Sunday, there were lots of cyclists on the road, shouting waving as we rode by.We even saw the same peloton as we saw pictured at our hotel last night. We rode through the Monte Cucco national park and arrived at Osaria del Gatto as instructed by some earlier cyclists. But which way to go next? The map showed a dual carriage road to the right, so we went that way. When we arrived, the road was a freeway. The map was wrong or I read it wrong. We turned around and went to Gualdo Tadino for an ice cream. The good part of turning round was the relief from our friend the head-wind. It was the same one that had played with us yesterday, but it had been training overnight and was stronger today. What should have been a quick ride was made painful by the wind and at times I was relieved by the climbing. At least that effort achieved something! It was quite a climb to Casa Castalda and we were near the top of Mount Serra and then started to descend. It was an enjoyable decent and Daniel and I chatted about lines into curves and why you bring up the inside knee when Daniel got his second bee sting for the tour. It got caught in his jersey and stung his shoulder. First aid applied and we were on our way. While trying to get into Perugia, more confusion about signs and freeways, a passer-by set us straight and a sharp 200m climb to enter the town. We did a cycle tour of the town and enjoyed the stunning view and the Plazza dei Priori (Built 1279) and an unusual and intricate Fontane Magiore (fountain) built by the Pisano brothers in 1277. Stats Dist 84 Km, Average 18km/hr, Max 52km/hr, Climb 1040
