Day 43 Ancona - 10.9.05

There was no time to say good bye to the Adriatic Sea as we rode the busy coastal road to Falconara. The road turned inland and we were left constantly trying to avoid the Auto Strada (freeway) We were sent the wrong way twice by unclear signage but our map helped us out and we stopped at Jesi for or first Ice Cream of the Day. There was a steady flow of cyclists on the road and we even saw one with a helmet.

Note : in both cases above, the correct way to Fabriano was to the right!

It took another 20km to leave the built up area and see the farms and forests and smell the country smells. At Serra we had to leave the main road and immediately started to climb. It was hot going and we were both running low on water but loving the scenery when, through good planning, we came to the tiny town of San Giovani.

The bar was the only place open (or that looked like any kind of shop) and the barman read our jerseys while he served up enormous serves of Ice Cream. He rinsed and filled our drink bottles and wanted to know about our trip. Two old men outside the bar on a bench also questioned us about our trip and called the only guy in the village who spoke english over. We all had a great chat on all manner of things and continued on our way.
