Return to the Mainland News from the Big Cog
Day 41 Jablanca - 8.9.05
Two neighbours hammering the same bit of wood below our window in the narrow alley of a street at 6AM gave me an early start to the day. I scrounged the few Tolars I had left after last nights banquet and we had a roll and a peach for breakfast. The ride along the coast was only short and we boarded our third ferry from Prizna to the island of Pag.

We were hoping this third island would be less hilly than Krk or Rab but it was not to be. By the time we stopped for lunch at Pag (not the island , the town) we had climbed over 800 meters and needed a rest. Pag dates from the 15th century with its narrow streets and small harbour. I imagine 500 years ago it would have been a summer destination for swimming, fishing, and lying around.
We ate a beautiful fish meal, ice cream - of course, and were told by the waiter it was all flat from there on. We found out later, he must only travel by car, but it was easier and we made good progress into Zadar. In town we met Hilary and had a late night tour of the old city dating from around 50 BCE and the circular church from the 9th century.
Stats Dist 116 Km, Average 16.5km/hr, Max 61km/hr, Climb 1215m
